Coloring March Correspondences: White Sage, a Hare, and Mars

Here are a few of the March Correspondences that I’ve colored recently, along with notes to share the colored pencils a that I used.

These pages are from the Planner for a Magical 2018, and I’m using Prismacolor Premier pencils (the specific pencil colors I used are listed below, so scroll down if you want to check that out!)

Wild Roses, Aquamarine, and Sage

For the March Correspondences on the calendar, I wanted to give it a duskier, yet still colorful and bright look. It’s been foggy, rainy, and kind of grey and wet here, so that was the look I wanted to convey.

I chose more muted blue shades for the Aquamarine than how I’ve colored that stone in the past, both because I wanted to try something new, and also to keep with the duskier color scheme. I tried for a bit more of a white sage look using the Jade Green pencil, but it still came out pretty dark and shadowy, however I like it and it  gave me ideas to improve the look of my white sage in the future. The orangey Pale Vermillion on the roses came from from the previous Dream Spell pages that I did, I really fell in love with that color so I’m looking for ways to continue using it now.

Wild Roses:

  • Pale Vermillion
  • Canary Yellow

Aquamarine:

  • Cloud Blue
  • Light Cerulean Blue
  • Indigo Blue
  • 50% French Grey

White Sage:

  • Jade Green
  • 50% French Grey
  • 70% French Grey
  • Olive Green

The March Hare and Mars

My little March hare came out looking kind of scrawny and underfed! Aww! haha! I was trying to make him fuzzy, which he is, and I’m hoping he fattens up a bit now that spring is coming. I tried to carry the same color scheme through from the previous calendar page, however, I added deeper reds to Mars and some new browns for the hare.

For Mars, first I colored a layer of the browns to get the shadowy rocky surface. Then I colored over it with the vermillion and reds. I made sure to leave a highlight on the bottom and a darker sliver of shadow on the opposite side to give it a realistic, spacey look!

March Hare:

  • Beige
  • Light Umber
  • Dark Umber
  • Blush Pink
  • (accent colors: True Blue, Pale Vermillion, Olive Green, Limepeel)

Mars:

  • Beige
  • Light Umber
  • Dark Umber
  • Pale Vermillion
  • Poppy Red
  • Crimson Red

I hope that was helpful! As always, if you want to share your coloring, I’d love to see it! Post it on Insta or Facebook (links below) with #coloringbookofshadows.
